What is the LCWP?

The Litchfield County Writers Project (LCWP) is part of the University of Connecticut Torrington campus. Since the extraordinary uniqueness of Litchfield County lies in the number and stature of its writers, UConn Torrington recognizes the contributions of these exceptional people by gathering their works. The LCWP serves as an academic and cultural advocate for our county’s remarkable literary talent.

Litchfield County's landscape has always fed the creative imagination of writers and artists who have come to live here. The LCWP celebrates our county's remarkable literary talent with a collection of over 1,500 literary works and a schedule of classes and guest discussions each semester.

Inspiring writers like Arthur Miller, Charles Van Doren, Honor Moore and Frank McCourt have been guest speakers of LCWP at the Torrington campus.

We're also passionate about including the wider community in what we offer. All our events are free of charge and usually suitable for all ages.

The Mission of the Litchfield County Writers Project at the University of Connecticut Torrington campus:
To provide a central element of support, preservation, display and celebration of, for and about the writers of Litchfield County, in ways that might further the academic aims of the University while enriching our community's creative life.
